Gas Prices Rising and Protests in Oil-Rich Countries: How Did We Get Here?

COMMENTARY | "Wadi Al-Uyoun: An outpouring of green amid the harsh, obdurate desert, as if it had burst from within the Earth or fallen from the sky. It was nothing like its surroundings, or rather had no connection with them, dazzling you with curiosity and wonder: how had water and greenery burst out in a place like this?" -- From "Cities of Salt" by Abdelrahman Munif. Translation by Peter Theroux

I often feel that many of us who love most of all the place where we were born that we have crisp, intense memories of that place. The greenest greens of summer-leaved trees, the most intense scent of wildflowers, and the unique purity of the drinking water.

With the passing of time, sadly, that reality no longer remains for others to enjoy. We only have our words to communicate the beauty Mother Nature can provide when her resources are respected.

Listen to internet radio with Talking Progressive on Blog Talk Radio

Author JONATHAN MAXWELL joins us to talk about his highly acclaimed, well researched book "Murderous Intellectuals: German Elite and the Nazi SS." We'll also take some time to discuss how some Tea Party members have adopted Nazi-like tactics and rhetoric to attack the Obama Administration and its policies. We'll also discuss how conservatives manipulate ideas and images (such as patriotism and the American flag) to sway middle class voters away from populism and populist policies.***Jonathan's book has won an international literary competition:  the "2011 Allbooks Review Editor's Choice Award" in the Best Non/fiction Book Category. "Murderous Intellectuals" was also rated one of the "20 Most Memorable Debuts of 2010" by online literary journal "Author Exposure"** . . . promises to be a show packed full of interesting information.

United Nations' Millennium Development Goals

100 percent Agreement in the United Nations: Less Talk, More Action. Although Right to Left on Political Spectrum, All Have an Opinion on the UN's 2015 Millennium Development Goals.
Each leader of the 140 countries in attendance has stated the progress and problems in their country, as well as offering straight-forward suggestions for improving the chances of reaching the goals. The President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, suggested that success in meeting the objectives makes necessary the inclusion of all people into the economic structure of the world, which would call for a fair distribution of wealth in order to create jobs, especially for women. Tarja Halonen, President of Finland, added, "The trinity is still true." She is referring to the foundational assumption of the UN Millennium Declaration, which includes the following three principles which cannot be ignored.

I also wrote about the three different concerns of the right, left and centrist positions along the political spectrum. As examples I used the Heritage Foundation the Brookings Institute and the Center for Global Devlopment.
